The database work behind a 46% open rate

How a five-person tech agency turned a database that had never been mailed into a 46% open and a 22% click. Not just the data: the content, the automations and the landing pages too.

A boutique tech recruitment agency came to us with a JobAdder database that had never been verified, coded or mailed. Five people, thousands of contacts, and no real way to reach any of them.

The only way anyone built a list was to remember who they knew.

A quarter of the email addresses were dead.
Ten custom fields sat empty on every single record.
Over 80% of contacts were in no folder at all.

We rebuilt the database first

Everything else runs on the data, so that came first. The database sourcing took about three weeks.

1

Verified every address

Split into good, catch-all and bad, so nothing went out to a dead inbox.

2

Recovered the dead ones by hand

2,266 bad records researched one at a time. 1,170 of those people were found at new companies and brought back with a current title and email, not deleted.

3

Sourced 6,000 new contacts

At the companies they actually wanted to be in, with relevant job titles, not random names.

4

Coded every record

Industry, function, level and location, so anyone can pull a clean segment in seconds instead of spending a morning on LinkedIn.

A clean database is only the foundation

A verified list on its own doesn't send anything or tell you who to call. So we built everything that runs on top of it.

Content for every segment

A security lead and a product lead don't read the same thing. Each send opened on what that discipline actually cares about.

Segmented automation

Twelve sends instead of one blast, each from the consultant who owns those contacts, so replies land with the right person.

Click-to-task alerts

When someone opens or clicks, a task drops straight into that consultant's JobAdder. A warm call with a reason to make it.

A landing page per category

We designed the pages each segment's email pointed to, built around what that audience came to read.

Then they sent their first campaign. Not one blast, twelve segments, each written around the discipline it went to and sent from the consultant who owns those contacts.

Why the bounce number matters

Market norm for opens is around 25%. This first send hit 46.4%, with a click rate of 22.2%, nearly half of everyone who opened.

And a 0.67% bounce keeps the domain in great standing, which is what makes every future email land, not just this one.

It all runs on verified contacts

The content, the automations, the alerts and the pages all point at one thing: a database of real, verified people. Without that, none of it has anywhere to go.

That groundwork is the one piece you can start on yourself. We've put it into a course on the Recruitment Playbook: finding contacts with AI SuperSearch, verifying them, mapping the fields to your ATS, and uploading into JobAdder or Bullhorn without making a mess.

The content, automation and page builds are the work we do with clients directly. If you want a bespoke database build and campaign management like this, grab a time for a chat. The verified database is where you can get started on your own.
