What makes a great client base

What makes a good client base? More is more? Or less is more?
Today’s episode is all about the importance of a well-rounded client base ad not biting off more than you can chew (or service).

Now, we know what you’re thinking, “Why should I bother with having a variety of clients? Can’t I just stick to one type?” Well, let me tell you, having a diverse client base is like having a diverse diet. Sure, you could eat nothing but pizza every day, but eventually, you’re going to get sick of it (blasphemy, I know).

But seriously, having a variety of clients not only keeps things interesting, but it also provides a safety net. If one client suddenly drops off the face of the earth, you won’t be left high and dry because you’ve got other clients to fall back on. And speaking of safety nets, let’s talk about the importance of less is more.

Now, I’m not saying you should only have one client (unless that client is Oprah, in which case, go for it), but spreading yourself too thin by working with 40 clients can lead to burnout and poor performance. It’s like trying to juggle too many balls at once – eventually, you’re going to drop them all. Instead, focus on a select few clients and give them the attention they deserve. Quality over quantity, people!

So, grab a snack, pour yourself your fave drink, and get ready to learn why a diverse client base and a focused approach are the keys to recruitment success.

Land & expand

Are you leaving money on the table by neglecting your existing client relationships? It’s time to level up your game with Laura and Ez, as they reveal the secrets to building a thriving business by focusing on “landing and expanding” your accounts.

Laura & Ez share how they’ve been able to build highly profitable desks by having a land & expand mindset.

Transition from consultant to leadership

In this week’s episode, Ez and Laura spill the tea on their journeys from clueless consultants to leaders. They’ll make you laugh, and occasionally cringe as they share their epic fails and embarrassing moments that will make you feel like a true leader in comparison.

Get ready to learn some valuable lessons on how to talk the talk, walk the walk, and not trip and fall on your way to the top. From handling difficult team members to avoiding awkward water cooler small talk, Ez and Laura will give you the lowdown on everything you need to know to be a leader.

So, grab a drink, put your feet up, and get ready for some witty banter, awkward pauses, and shameless self-promotion!

Power of personal development

Personal development. This week Ez & Laura talk about personal development and how its changed their lives! They’re tried a lot – Ayahuasca, yoga, mediation, sound therapy. You name it, they’ve tried it!
It’s an area they’re both so passionate about and they attribute their success in businesses to the personal development that they have seeked out.
It’s not all about reading leadership books. Personal development is just that. Personal.
We hope you enjoy!

Is the market softening?

Whats going on in the world of recruitment? Should we be bracing for a slow down? If we were to rely on social media, we could easily assume the market is tanking! But it’s not all doom and gloom. Ez & Laura chat through what they’re seeing in the market based on conversations they’re having day to day with agency owners all across Australia.

Establishing a business development mindset

“In 2005 in the UK this episode would have just been called ‘get on the phones innit’.

But now in 2022, we like to do things a little differently, and the first step towards business development success is looking at your mindset towards it. After a booming 12-18 months, with very little need to focus on new sales, it may be feeling a little daunting to be considering getting back into the swing of business development, and some of you may be feeling a little resistant. So open up this episode for some little nuggets of advice from us as to how to get yourself back into the swing of all things bd. Ez is also extremely articulate in this episode and you’ll need to listen to the end to find out why…”

How to handle objections in your business development

OK! To head this episode up- YOU CANNOT HANDLE EVERY OBJECTION. Read that again and gift yourself a sigh of relief. Old school sales training will try and tell you that you can work around every scenario but that is bullshit in our opinion. What you can do however, is explore, probe further and hopefully find a chink in the prospects armour. In this episode we gift you our step-by-step process for handling objections. It isn’t very funny, so don’t expect a huge amount of lol$ this week, but it does add value, so hopefully you enjoy!

How to secure exclusivity

This weeks poddy is all about one of the most discussed subjects in recruitment. Exclusivity baby! Selling exclusivity comes up ALOT for Recruiters- but actually, as we discuss in this week’s poddy, it isn’t about selling exclusivity, it’s about selling your PROCESS and then securing exclusivity. This statement alone was enough to give Laura the ‘recruitment shivers’ as she calls it, which confused Ez no end and we got off track for a bit before pulling it back and hopefully giving you guys some insight as to how we sell short term exclusivity that requires minimal commitment from the client. 💪🏼

How to change verticals in recruitment

Some of you may know that Spencer Lane used to be one of Australia’s most well recognised rec2rec agencies, and in 2021 Ez made the brave decision to change verticals to marketing recruitment. In this episode, Laura asks Ez about his key challenges and learnings in changing verticals, and what consultants should be thinking about if they are considering a change in vertical- a must watch for all experienced recruiters wondering if the grass is greener 🙂
